General

What is included in a motorcycle rental?

+

You will get:

  • Your chosen motorcycle, fitted with H.I.S.S. Security
  • Touring Screens
  • A set of hard panniers & a top box
  • A charging point on the motorcycle (for your phone or device)
  • A full tank of petrol (which needs to be returned full)
  • Comprehensive Insurance
  • (Optional) Pick up service, free from Belfast airport or accommodation within a 20-mile radius.
  • If you’re coming from Dublin, you can get the Belfast Express bus to Sprucefield (90 minute journey), where we will meet you.

Optional:

  • Meet & greet at Dublin Airport for rentals of seven days or more for a small additional fee.

Is insurance included in the rental cost?

Yes, you will have fully comprehensive insurance which includes cover for the UK mainland, Ireland and The Isle of Mann. Other European countries on request (additional fee may apply). An excess of £1000 of any damage/claims applies, credit card deposit required.

Is roadside assistance available?

Yes, roadside assistance is provided by Granite Breakdown Services. It includes UK mainland and Ireland. European cover on request (additional fee may apply).

What documents do I need to bring?

We will need three forms of identification. After you’ve made your booking, you and anyone else in your riding party will need to email a copy of your driving licence, passport and a recent Utility Bill or Bank Statement showing your current address to timallen@belfastmotorcyclerentals.com at least a week before your rental start date so we can organise your insurance.

We will take photocopies of these documents to retain with the licence agreement.

Can I cancel or edit bookings?

If you need to make any changes to your booking, please get in touch. If your rental start date is more than 30 days away, we will cancel your current booking. You can then rebook a rental with updated details.

What time should motorcycles be collected or returned?

Usually between 9am-7pm, but we will discuss a time when your booking is made and we can find what suits you best.

What happens if we’re running late for collecting or returning motorcycles?

+

You’ll need to phone as soon as you know you’ll be late so you can let us know approximately what time you will be arriving. A charge may apply for late returns.

Rental Restrictions

I have recently passed my test, can I rent a motorcycle / book a tour?

+

You need to have at least 24 months of regular driving/riding experience before you can rent a motorcycle or book a tour.

Are there age restrictions of rent a motorcycle / book a tour?

+

You must be aged between 25 & 79 (inclusive) to rent a motorcycle and hold the relevant licence.

Anyone outside this age range, with current motorcycle licence & experience, please ask as our insurance company will consider your request.

Are there any other reasons why I couldn’t hire a motorcycle / book a tour?

Yes, there are certain occupations that we cannot insure for motorcycle rental. For a full list see the Terms and Conditions.

You also cannot rent a motorcycle if you have had insurance declined, renewal refused or cover cancelled by any motor insurance company; if you have any criminal convictions; if you have any physical or mental defect that has not been declared to the DVLA; or if you have been in an accident that was your fault in the last 3 years.

Can rented motorcylces be taken to the Republic of Ireland or mainland Britain?

Yes, the insurance you receive covers you in the whole of the UK. There is an additional charge to ride our motorcycles in the EU. If you intend to take a motorcycle to Europe, please inform us when completing your booking.

You & the Motorcycle

Can I bring my own riding gear and/or helmet?

Yes of course! You can post/courier your riding gear/helmet ahead to us if you don’t have room in your luggage. We will store it securely until you get here.

Can I hire riding gear and/or a helmet from you?

+

Yes, we have a stock of riding gear that can be hired on a per day basis. If you require riding gear or a helmet, please let us know at the checkout under “Require Extras” and we will be in touch to get your sizes.

Can I take a pillion passenger?

+

Yes, both rentals and tours allow for a pillion passengers. Must be an authorised and licensed driver aged 35 - 70 who has held their full UK / EU / Australian / New Zealand / Canadian / USA / South Africa issued licence for minimum of 3 years.

What happens if the motorcycle breaks down during the rental / tour?

There is a breakdown recovery telephone number on every motorcycle and on your hire agreement which you can call in case of a breakdown.

What happens if I get into an accident during the rental / tour?

+

You would need to get in touch with us as soon as possible, and there will be a number on every motorcycle and on your hire agreement to call in case of an accident.

Can rented motorcycles be taken offroad or onto racetracks?

+

No, your insurance won’t cover your anywhere off road or racetracks. If you do, you will be responsible for full costs to repair any damage caused.

Tours

Are tours guided or self-guided?

On self guided tours, we will provide you with a route and accommodation locations to give you some guidance, while allowing you to explore on your own.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of people for tours?

+

On self guided tours there is no restrictions on the number of people who can go on the tour.

On guided tours, we would need a minimum of 4 riders, and a maximum of 6 per guide. Each rider is able to bring a pillion passenger.

For groups of less than 4, please enquire.

What happens on the first day of the tour?

You have a choice, choose a guided tour, no effort required, relax and follow your guide and enjoy the ride. Discover places only a local guide will know, a great way to discover the unknown Ireland.

The first day of your tour is orientation day. We’ll take you through the motorcycle you have chosen, check everything is suitable for you and show you how to use the equipment provided, e.g. Seat height, panniers and GPS systems. Any extras such as riding gear hire will be fitted and checked.

We’ll also discuss your tour route, providing you with tourist maps with places of interest.

Where will we be staying during the tour?

We have pre-booked your rooms in 4* hotels (where available) in the area of your tour, so you don’t have to worry. Details will be given to you during the orientation day.

What can we do with our luggage during the tour?

+

Each motorcycle is fitted with hard panniers and a top box that you can store your luggage in throughout the tour. If you have bulky items such as suitcases we will be happy to store those for you for the duration of your tour.
