one day motorcycle tour

North Coast Experience

arrow click to scroll down

One of the best coastal roads in the world, a medieval castle, ancient harbour villages, stunning views over Scotland and the Atlantic Ocean, an iconic tunnel of trees and home. Not bad going for one day. You can expect all that and more on our one-day motorcycle tour of the North Coast.

To your left, the magical Glens of Antrim: a succession of lush, emerald green valleys sweeping down to the sea. To your right, breathtaking views over the North Channel to Scotland. Between them, it’s you and your rental motorcycle on the Antrim Coast Road — one of the world’s greatest tourist routes — as it hugs this rugged coastline.

While it’s not specifically a Game of Thrones tour, you will see many landmarks and locations from the hit TV series as you snake through the bays and headlands of Northern Ireland’s North Coast. Book a guided motorcycle tour or adventure alone on a self-guided tour.

Hidden gems round every bend

Starting at our base in Moira, you’ll head for Carrickfergus Castle, a Norman castle that stands sentry on the northern shore of Belfast Lough. You’ll then ride north on the Antrim Coast Road on what is rightly considered one of the world’s greatest road journeys.

Follow the road as it weaves through a series of seaside villages, including Carnlough and its picturesque harbour, which featured in Game of Thrones. Then it’s on to the spectacular, rugged coastline of Murlough Bay and Torr Head above it - both used in aerial footage on the HBO show - where crashing waves give way to panoramic views over the Mull of Kintyre.

You’ll visit the small seaside town of Ballycastle, before dropping down to the scenic village of Ballintoy (better known to Game of Thrones fans as the Iron Islands), with its small fishing harbour, raised beach and rock pools.

There’s a final Game of Thrones location at the Dark Hedges (King’s Road in the series), where an avenue of beech trees arch over the road to create an incredibly atmospheric tunnel. You’ll then head south for home, taking in the towns of Ballymena and Antrim on your way.
