one day motorcycle tour

Donegal in a day

arrow click to scroll down

This one-day motorcycle tour gets you from the heart of Northern Ireland to the rugged Atlantic coastline of Donegal and back again. Only the first and last eight miles of the day are on the motorway, so you can enjoy more than 200 miles of country roads and stunning scenery all day long.

You’ll experience a diverse range of spectacular views of Irish countryside. Emerald green drumlins and hills, the magical wilderness of highland peat bogs, picturesque loughs of all sizes and beautiful coastline. When you do venture out of rural beauty, it’s well worth it to sample the vibrant atmosphere of Donegal Town and the charming lakeland town of Enniskillen.

If renting a motorcycle to ride the Wild Atlantic Way sounds like your kind of adventure, this epic outing will allow you to do that in a single day. You’ll ride a section of the world-renowned coastal route between Donegal Town and Ballyshannon.

A Donegal day trip

Setting off from our base in Moira, you’ll ride to Armagh, with its distinctive twin-spired cathedral and Georgian architecture. You’ll then skirt the edges of vast country estates and undulating farmland on the country roads to Caledon, before continuing your motorcycle tour of County Tyrone through Fivemiletown, Fintona and Dromore.

You’ll head into Fermanagh and through the village of Kesh, crossing into Donegal at Pettigo, where the Termon River marks the border between the two counties. The lush farmland of Tyrone and Fermanagh will give way to a beautifully rugged landscape of heathland, bogs, loughs and forests as you go cross-country to Donegal Town, where the River Eske flows into Donegal Bay. Grab a bite to eat in this bustling town, before heading south along the Wild Atlantic Way to Ballyshannon.

From there, it’s inland to the Fermanagh Lakelands. You and your motorcycle will hug the shoreline of Lower Lough Erne as the road weaves its way to the island town of Enniskillen and its 16th century castle. It’s then back to base along the roads of Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh.
