DAY ONE
Day 1 sees you take in the medieval Carrickfergus Castle, before heading on north on one of the world’s best coastal motorcycle routes. The Antrim Coast Road cuts a path between the succession of lush glacial troughs of the Glens of Antrim and the deep blue waters of the North Channel, meandering through charming seaside hamlets and offering breathtaking views of Scotland.
You’ll see an array of beautiful coastal landscapes. The fishing port at Carnlough, the rugged coastline of Murlough Bay and the towering cliffs of Torr Head all featured in Game of Thrones, as did the picturesque fishing harbour of Ballintoy (better known to fans of the series as the Iron Islands). You’ll ride inland to the iconic tunnel of beech trees that form the Dark Hedges (King’s Road in the series), before returning to Moira for a stay at Ralph’s luxury guest house, Berwick Hall Cottage, Flatfield House B&B or Ballycanal guest house and self-catering.
DAY TWO
It’s into the mountains for day 2, riding out to Slieve Gullion and the Cooley Mountains, which sweep down to the ancient town of Carlingford. From the neighbouring Victorian port of Greenore, you’ll board a ferry bound for the ancient Kingdom of Mourne. Enjoy panoramic views of mountains and water (and occasionally dolphins) for the 20-minute crossing, before riding deep into the Mourne Mountains.
Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Ulster, is among the peaks you’ll see as you complete a high mountain pass of the Mournes. You’ll then drop down to the seaside resort of Newcastle for a well-deserved ice-cream, before heading back to base via Slieve Croob and the Dromara Hills.
