The Magical North & Donegal

arrow click to scroll down

Clock up more than 500 miles on a three-day motorcycle tour taking in some of the north of Ireland’s most spectacular landscapes. You’ll ride a section of the world-renowned Wild Atlantic Way, travel the entirety of the incredible Antrim Coast Road and complete a high mountain pass of the Mourne Mountains.

Admire the lush greenery that gave the Emerald Isle its name, picture-perfect coastal landscapes and panoramic views of the Irish Sea, the Mournes and the Cooley Mountains from the Carlingford Lough Ferry. Medieval castles, idyllic harbours, historic towns, Game of Thrones locations and a trip to the seaside: this tour has it all.

You’ll experience everything on two wheels on the open roads of Northern Ireland and Donegal, adventuring alone on a self-guided tour or with one of our expert motorcycle tour guides to show you some hidden gems along the way.

Scenic coastline,
stunning peaks

DAY ONE

Day 1 sees you take in the medieval Carrickfergus Castle, before heading on north on one of the world’s best coastal motorcycle routes. The Antrim Coast Road cuts a path between the succession of lush glacial troughs of the Glens of Antrim and the deep blue waters of the North Channel, meandering through charming seaside hamlets and offering breathtaking views of Scotland.

You’ll see an array of beautiful coastal landscapes. The fishing port at Carnlough, the rugged coastline of Murlough Bay and the towering cliffs of Torr Head all featured in Game of Thrones, as did the picturesque fishing harbour of Ballintoy (better known to fans of the series as the Iron Islands). You’ll ride inland to the iconic tunnel of beech trees that form the Dark Hedges (King’s Road in the series), before returning to Moira for a stay at Ralph’s luxury guest house, Berwick Hall Cottage, Flatfield House B&B or Ballycanal guest house and self-catering.

DAY TWO

It’s into the mountains for day 2, riding out to Slieve Gullion and the Cooley Mountains, which sweep down to the ancient town of Carlingford. From the neighbouring Victorian port of Greenore, you’ll board a ferry bound for the ancient Kingdom of Mourne. Enjoy panoramic views of mountains and water (and occasionally dolphins) for the 20-minute crossing, before riding deep into the Mourne Mountains.

Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Ulster, is among the peaks you’ll see as you complete a high mountain pass of the Mournes. You’ll then drop down to the seaside resort of Newcastle for a well-deserved ice-cream, before heading back to base via Slieve Croob and the Dromara Hills.

DAY THREE

Your final day is spent adventuring to the Wild Atlantic Way. You’ll ride through historic Armagh, the vivid greenery of our hills and farmland, and the magical wilds of Donegal’s highland loughs and peat bogs to Donegal Town. After a bite to eat, you’ll ride the WIld Atlantic Way to Ballyshannon, before cutting inland to the Fermanagh Lakelands. Revel in the corners and curves of the Lower Lough Erne shore road on your way to the island town of Enniskillen and its 16th century castle.

Rest and relax at the end of each day’s ride at Ralph’s luxury guest house, Berwick Hall Cottage, Flatfield House B&B or Ballycanal guest house and self-catering, which are all handy to our base in Moira.
